In a groundbreaking partnership aimed at improving mental health support across the music industry, Universal Music Group (UMG) in California and Music Health Alliance (MHA) in Tennessee announced the launch of the Music Industry Mental Health Fund. This initiative, launched on 13 February 2025, will provide comprehensive, high-quality outpatient mental health resources for music professionals across the USA.
Expanding Access to Mental Health Resources for Music Professionals
This expanded partnership, building upon a four-year-long healthcare access program between UMG and MHA, will offer a wide range of mental health services, including tailored recommendations for counselors and psychiatrists, grants to help offset mental health care costs, and additional financial resources to ensure continuity of care. Clients from UMG and beyond will have access to MHA’s advocacy team, with initial inquiries receiving responses within 24 hours.
The fund was specifically created to assist members of the music industry, including both current and former professionals. This expansive support network represents a significant step forward in the ongoing effort to provide mental health and well-being services to an often-overlooked sector.

A Holistic Approach to Healthcare and Well-Being
Susan Mazo, UMG’s Chief Impact Officer says, “We have been working on ways to establish a streamlined pathway for mental health access, funding, and care planning. Growing and continuing our partnership with the Music Health Alliance was the most natural way to ensure continuous and effective mental health support for anyone working in our industry.”
Tatum Hauck Allsep, MHA Founder and CEO, echoes Mazo's sentiments, emphasizing the comprehensive nature of their services. "Music Health Alliance possesses the comprehensive resources necessary to address the full spectrum of mental health needs for music industry professionals. This includes financial assistance, a continuum of care for both mental and physical health, and wraparound services such as psychiatric support, intensive outpatient and inpatient programs, and data collection," she says.
In addition to mental health support, the Music Health Alliance offers a full spectrum of healthcare advocacy services, including dental care, group health services, and vision care resources. These services are available at no cost to individuals in the USA who have worked in the music industry for three or more years, with spouses, partners, and children also eligible for support. This partnership builds upon a previous collaboration between UMG and MHA, which has already helped nearly 1,000 individuals save over $12.5 million in healthcare costs.
